A state capital without a "stately highway"

When will we woke upto it - that the successive Governments have failed this city

Not even a decent highway across the city even after 50 years !

Are we building a Nation or not .

What is the state of Road and Rail connectivity?

We should parade our MPs through the capital city at peak hours in a transport bus or autorikshaw so they get a first hand experience of the daily commuters

Where is the Trivandrum-Bangaluru daily Express?

Everybody knows that only train that plies between Trivandrum and Bangalore on daily basis is the Island express which actually runs from Kanyakumari to Bangalore. It takes 18 hours to reach Bangalore .12.45 pm to 6.55 am.

The other train is the passenger from Kochuveli Bangalore Passenger which runs thrice weekly .It starts at 4pm and reaches Bangalore at 8.30am . 16 hours .

Compare this with the average running time of the ubiquitious Trivandrum-Bangalore Buses which covers the distance in 12 to 14 hours .They start in the evening and reaches Bangalore by 5 or 6 in the morning .

Why cant the railway do it ? Who is pulling the strings here

From close to 10 years, I have been representing repeatedly to the Railway Ministers, as also officials at various levels, about the woefully inadequate rail services between Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram, the respective state capitals, even as there exists fairly good services between Bangalore and Chennai, and even Chennai and Thiruvananthapuram.

The only daily train linking Bangalore with Tiruvananthapuram, the 6526 Bangalore-Kanyakumari Express, takes a whole of 18 hrs to cover the distance of 803 km, averaging a speed of 44.61 kmph. This would easily make it eligible for an entry in the 'Guiness' records as the slowest express train in the world. On a comparison, the Shatabdi express between Bangalore and Chennai averages 72 kmph, and even the Brindavan express, with 7 stops, averages a creditable 63 kmph. At the Brindavan Express speed, the Bangalore –Thiruvananthapuram journey can be completed in less than 13 hrs.

Considering the number of daily overnight private buses plying between Bangalore and various parts of Kerala, all of which invariably go full, there is more than adequate scope for atleast one overnight superfast daily service between Bangalore and Thiruvananthapuram, completing the journey in less than 13 hrs, and that is what the present demand is for.

Over the last year, I have in addition been posting messages on the Railway Bulletin Board, alongwith some 200 others, the highest number for any single subject. The officials have been responding with blatant excuses like inadequate demand, route cluttering, etc. I therefore thought that I will mobilize the voices of the entire lot of people traveling regularly along this route to make this collective demand

Politics has made such a mess of itself (stinking to put it mildly) that "ordinary" people prefer to keep out .It has become the playground of the "strongmen" , the powerbrokers and power hawkers , the king makers , the media chaperons , the fundraisers , the musclemen , the "all-in-one" Gurus and the Modern day Kings themselves .

So frankly speaking its the most intense reality show going on - and the best actors win!

the candidates never speaks matter of fact or gives any solid assurances .Its all the slippery tongue that wags .

the people have good fun watching the drama on 24x7 channels

its like cricket , market prices and the weather .one has to endure .this is INDIA - 21st century

What is the future of this city?

How those dreams shapes up - the collective dream - into action - into a tangible reality - which then changes the lives .

What is that there is Trivandrum ? Is this a place to be in the 21st Century?

A Capital City is supposed to lead by example

What is there is Trivandrum which sets an example to the World?

VSSC ? Its just that the ISRO found this an ideal location to have space scientists parked here .Nothing that Trivandrum per say contributed to it.

Padmanabha Swamy Temple ? Of course still the 'marvel' in this city

The Legislative Complex - Its more of a sham than an excllent piece of architecture

So what is there that the State Governement has build over these past 50 years and which is World class ?

Real Issues Today

Trivandrum never got its due as a "State Capital" .The powerful ones always came from outside - hence they never gave any importance to the development of this city .

Proof - We still have the basic infrastucture that was built by the erstwhile Travancore Royalty.

Proof - We still have those main streets which were built 50 years back .

Proof - We still have a National Medical Institute or Art Gallery or Town Hall built "then"!

You can feel the magnitude of the problem if you can just take a drive across the city at say 1o O clock in the morning . Start from Sreekaryam which is the Gateway from Northern side . The stretch from Sreekaryam till Ulloor is still just a double lane .It is the state highway passing into a state capital! No body have ever felt it - till day!

It talks a lot about the long very long neglect the city is suffering from .

Now if we go to the Southern entry point like Pappanamcode - the situation is same or worse !

Why is it so - why have we taken 50 long years even to make a plan ?

How many more will it take to get it completed ?

Who cares ?
